The 9 Times That Sarah Jessica Parker Channeled Carrie Bradshaw Style in Real Life
As we all wait with bated breath (or more like tremendous levels of anxiety requiring gallons of Cosmopolitans as a remedy) for the confirmation of a Sex and the City 3 movie, we need a distraction. The only sort of diversion worthy of this mega-rumor gathering steam would be to talk about Sarah Jessica Parker's individual, unparalleled sense of personal style.
Although, at times, it wouldn't be crazy to confuse SJP's sartorial skills with her on-screen alter ego, Carrie Bradshaw. They both have walk-in closets full of droolworthy, sell-your-children-level designer celebrity dresses, heels, and bags, plus that talent to effortlessly layer on seemingly not-coordinating items to pull off the unexpectedly perfect look. (Granted, Carrie had costume designer Patricia Field's expertise to thank for her newspaper print Dior dresses and iconic tutus.) So as an offering to the fashion gods to bless a Sex and the City part trois, Sarah Jessica Parker is our Glamour Style Icon of the Week. Here are her most Carrie Bradshaw-esque looks:
At the 2001 SAG Awards, SJP nabbed the trophy for Best Female Actor, as they say, for Sex and the City, the TV show. Per usual, she was a fashion clairvoyant, rocking an embellished bandeau top and matching midiskirt set that's very right now. (Fast-forward to Jessica Alba at Comic-Con this year. Deja vu, huh?)
In 2003, Sarah Jessica hit the Emmys to celebrate two nominations: her own for Best Actress and the show for Outstanding Comedy Series. She looked sweet and regal at the same time in this cotton-candy-esque confection of a couture gown by Chanel. If the Russian hadn't turned out to be such a jerk, Carrie would have worn this to some fancy-pants event with him in Paris. But then again, Big could totally commission this for her to wear—in New York—too.
SJP's tartan draped Alexander McQueen gown for the 2006 Met Gala went down in the history books of history books of Met Ball dresses. And for good reason. (Hey, even a very talented four-year-old made her own tissue-paper version almost a decade later. )
Remember when the first Sex and the City movie came out in 2008? Sarah Jessica really brought it at the London premiere in an exquisitely ruched and structured Alexander McQueen dress and a tall Philip Treacy fascinator that would make Kate Middleton jealous.
SJP hit the MTV Movie Awards a couple of months later in this super-hot outfit. Carrie would have totally worn this sparkly body-con L'Wren Scott dress and white Christian Louboutin skater booties out (with a shaggy fur coat?), maybe on a date with a dishy Yankee.
nly SJP could top her own red carpet outing from the first SATC movie. In 2010 for the SATC 2 London premiere, she stole the show in a sculptural Alexander McQueen rise-fall bubble-skirted gown and an even more towering Philip Treacy topper.
For the 2013 punk-themed Met Gala, SJP was seriously on point, starting with her fauxhauk-esque Philip Treacy headpiece. (Seriously, I need to know how she travels to the venues. Or does she exit the car and then sneak around the corner so a costumer can affix the hat?) Along with thinking it was pretty awesome to be at the Met Ball, Carrie would have appreciated the print mix of the floral Giles fall 2013 ball gown with the badass, plaid and velvet over-the-knee Christian Louboutin boots. She would have really liked the boots.
At last year's Serpentine Summer Party, Sarah Jessica got sassy in a fringed gold minidress by Naeem Khan. I feel like she's paying homage to a future Sex and the City movie right here.

Earlier this year, the star and fashion designer was one of the few guests to stick to the ball-gown-themed Met Gala dress code. Granted, she was the ball cochair so she kinda had to. She looks like an old-Hollywood movie star in this glorious Oscar de la Renta gown, complete with his signature on the train.
